Paraty is one of my favorite places in all of Brazil.

Just a few hour bus ride from Rio de Janeiro, its the perfect combination of rich history and natural beauty.

The Cobblestone streets and white-washed buildings are surrounded by turquoise water and lush green mountains.

And the best way to experience the area on a first morning in town, is by jumping on a Paraty boat tour down at the main harbor.

Navigate around the beautiful islands and stop for snorkeling expeditions, refreshing capirinhas and secluded beaches.

Back on land, rent a bike at any of the local shops and go explore the surrounding national parks – the waterfalls in Paraty are perfect.

After a long day, grab a traditional Brazilian snack before exploring the streets and shops of downtown Paraty.

And for dinner, you have more than a few options…

Try Banana da Terra for upscale Brazilian cuisine, including some delicious bolinhos and local white fish or you can check out a Brazilian take on Asian Cuisine at Thai Brasil for crazy cocktails and spicy curry.

If you’re on more of a budget, head over to the hidden gem – Istanbul for a a fresh juice and tasty kebab.

Wherever you decide to eat, finish the night with a stroll, strong drink and some soulful live music.

Hopefully this gives you an idea of why I enjoy Paraty so much.
