These are the accessories, resources, & camera gear I use to travel, make videos, and run my business.
This is my main camera. Full-frame Mirrorless Camera, that is light and great low-light capabilities.
My everyday vlogging lens because it’s wide and incredible in low light. Best lens for the Gareth Eats food videos.
This is my sniper. When I want close up shots in urban environments without being obnoxiously close. It’s also great for a do-all nature lens.
An absolute beast of a lens that is best for animals, sports, and nature. p.s. This image is not to scale, it’s big.
High quality compact microphone. Make sure you use it with the Rode DeadCat for maximum quality.
I switch to lav mics for noisy environments and indoor acoustics for noise and echo control.
I don’t like how the box look so I got two Rode Lav mics to connect to the system.
Drone footage in your videos immediately improves the production quality.
There are newer versions from DJI, but this is the one I use and I’m happy with.
Also, get the “fly more kit” - it’s worth it.
Truthfully, I don’t use my GoPro often. It’s good for action shots, underwater, and unique perspectives, but I’m trying to minimize my kit as much as possible.
However, I know other creators who ONLY use a GoPro, so it’s all personal preference.
Light weight. Durable. Easy to carry. Everything you need in a tripod.
As you might expect, I use this camera for all adventure activities. However, I also use this camera for interesting angles and perspectives that you can’t get with a regular camera (outside the car, underwater, etc.).
I just bought the brand new 2018, 15″ MacBook Pro (1TB) when my last one decided that the life of travel wasn’t for him.
The most important piece of equipment in my bag – multiple LaCie Rugged Hard Drives. I buy at least one new one each trip.
This isn’t the most important thing in your bag… unless you don’t have one. There are a million of these on the market, and I just randomly selected this one. I’ve had it for a year and it works great.
This is great for when you need more outlets… which is often when you travel. This gives me peace of mind when I plug in. Very important.
A very useful device when hiking in the mountains or out shooting for the day.
Invest in a fast computer to make editing 1000% more efficient.
I currently have the 16-inch 2021 Apple Macbook Pro with Apple M1 Max, 64 GB
I used the LaCie Rugged Hard Drives for many years, but recently upgraded to these little monsters because they’re just faster and smaller.
They’re expensive and they're fast. I’ve also used the SanDisk Extreme Pro cards, but they aren’t as powerful (but still good and much cheaper).
I work with three charged batteries at all times. I also recommend a dual charger that doesn't come with it.
High quality, lightweight tripod that’s easy to pack and does the job for most scenes. It’s just not great for severe conditions or when using the 100-400 lens.
I’ve used this more recently for the Gareth Eats food channel to place on a table while eating. It’s also good for quick setups and unique perspectives.
This beast charges everything, including my laptop - A lifesaver for long road trips, train travel or anywhere you don’t have access to (safe) outlets.
A must-have for international travel, especially if you’re visiting multiple countries in a short period of time.
Invest in a good pair of sandals. Hostel bathrooms, outside showers, and of course, beach days. Don’t get cheap ones just to save money, they’re worth it.
A carry two locks with me when I travel – this TSA lock for my luggage and another generic lock and key for public lockers.
I’ve used one suitcase for the past 14+ years of long-term world travel. This is it. I’ll never use anything else.
Please, STOP with the plan black suitcases that look exactly the same as every other traveler in this history of travel.
Finding the perfect camera bag is like finding a soulmate, and this one is pretty close. I even introduced her to my mom.
I store this in my big suitcase and use it as a day pack for city exploration when fly under the radar.
WARNING: If you wear these shirts you will 100% find yourself in amazing adventures.
My go-to base layer for cold climates and outdoor adventures like chasing wolves in Canada with Wildlife Photographers.
The only underwear I will ever wear.
PRO TIP: Invest in a good quality sandal while traveling. Useful on the beach, in public showers, or on laundry day.
I used Mitchum for many years but I’m trying to do better about the chemicals I put on or in my body.
Gentleman, you know what I’m talking about.
Add your pricing strategy. Be sure to include important details like value, length of service, and why it’s unique.
I’m not a doctor, but I can tell you from personal experience, this is a lifesaver.
Get yourself a good quality, natural sunscreen to protect your skin. I wish I paid more attention to this sooner.
I never used to wear bug spray, and then the deadly parasite happened. Now I don’t travel to the tropics without it.
Unfortunately, at certain airports around the world people can go through your bag.
I bring a water bottle everywhere I go so I decided to make my own perfect version. Yeti quality stainless steel.
This is the backbone of everything I create. I use Premiere Pro and After Effects for editing videos, and Photoshop/Lightroom for photos.
This is the platform I use to sell the Travel Deeper merch. It is very easy to use and I designed the site in just three days.
The site you are on right now is built on the Squarespace platform. It’s super easy to use for a non-developer like myself.
Teachable is the platform I use to host my Solo Travel course. There are other cheaper alternatives, but I found this one had the most comprehensive tools.
Until YouTube allows for A/B testing within the Ceator Studio (backend), I will continue to use TubeBuddy for advanced analytics.
This is where I get all my royalty free music from. You can also try Artlist or MusicBed, but I like the searchability of Epidemic best.
Every traveler should be using a VPN to protect their information while using WIFI in public, both abroad and at your neighborhood coffee shop.
Great place to find help for projects I can’t do myself, or don’t want to spend too much time on (i.e. motion graphics).
My preferred language learning program right now. They have the Language Sprint Challenge, which focuses on learning the language through actually speaking!
My preferred travel insurance. I have also used WorldNomads in the past and SafetyWing is now supported by their policies as well.
My preferred booking site for hotels because you can actually reach a human being when you’re on the road to help you book (or cancel) something last minute.
A good alternative to Airbnb. I have booked with Vrbo in Norway, Iceland, Croatia, and Egypt. I would search on both Airbnb and Vrbo to find good deals.
A good place to find flights. I search here, Booking.com, Google Flights, and Priceline whenever I’m booking a new flight.
One of the biggest travel search engines for hotels, rental cars, and flights. Check here when you’re doing your trip planning.
If you’re new to travel, let me tell you that you can use Uber in many countries around the world. 90% of the time, It’s cheaper and safer than taking a taxi.
Mental health above everything. Traveling solo can sometimes take a toll on your mental health (loneliness, uncertainty, etc). Try BetterHelp if you ever need a hand.

Thank you for your support!
I hope this travel resources page helps you travel deeper around the world. I often get asked what travel accessories I use, so I wanted to put together this list. This is also the best camera gear for vlogging that I have tested. As many of my travel vlogging friends would tell you however, the camera gear isn’t nearly as important as the story. This is 100% true. If you do not have the budget to purchase this camera gear, don’t worry.
For the first five years of my travel blog, I shot everything on a small point-and-shoot Canon s120 camera. The most important thing is that you just get out there and create!
If you have any questions about my travel accessories, resources or camera gear, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
