Backpacking Australia

All hardened backpackers will tell you; you have to start somewhere. Those who’ve travelled all over the world with their life on their back have experienced that feeling of going into the unknown, often on your own. But it’s that feeling that makes it such a special adventure. If that sounds like something you’d like to embark on, but you’re not sure where to go here’s a run-down of the reasons we think you should start in Australia.

It’s Set Up For Your Needs

Travelling in Australia is much easier than other favourite backpacker destinations such as Asia and South America. Obviously there are factors to think about before you go such as a foreign exchange for your currency as well as certain immunisations, but when travelling in Australia you won’t struggle with language, culture shock or food.

Many first time travellers begin their trip in Sydney and make their way up the East Coast taking in a variety of destinations along the way such as Byron Bay, Surfers Paradise, Airlie Beach, Fraser Island, Brisbane, Noosa and Cairns.

You don’t have to decide your route immediately as purchasing a bus pass from one of the many coach operators will enable you to jump on and off a number of times. In each destination you visit there’ll be a huge variety of budget options for accommodation, some independent and some part of a chain. Although they may not be as cheap as they once were, your nightly lodgings won’t eat too far into your budget, and the option of staying in a dorm is a great way to meet people.

The Scenery Will Make You Stop in Your Tracks

Elements of the culture in Australia will make you feel like it’s a home from home, but the awe-inspiring scenery will often help you realise just how far away you are.

Taking a boat trip out to the Whitsunday Islands to Whitehaven beach is one of the most breathtaking sights you could see, as is Lake McKenzie on Fraser Island.

Whether visiting Sydney Opera House, the Great Barrier Reef, Alice Springs or the Blue Mountains, you’ll never be prepared for the stunning views awaiting you at your next Australian destination.

City Living isn’t Just About Sydney

Sydney has everything and is a must on any trip to Australia. There are beautiful beaches, cosmopolitan bars and clubs, bountiful botanical gardens, top class museums and art galleries, vibrant culture and only a little grimy urban street life. Because of this many backpackers overlook the other south-eastern city; Melbourne.

Melbourne has more of a bohemian feel than Sydney and is full of quirky bars and unique independent restaurants. The hipsters are about in areas such as Brunswick Street where you’ll find second hand stores and a bustling cafe culture. Melbourne is not to be missed as is a great place to ease yourself into your backpacking experience.
