More and more we’re being asked to pop our personal information on social networking sites detailing age, location and hobbies. I’m sure you’re all too familiar with the standard response which only changes ever so slightly depending on who you are; shopping, the gym, going out with friends… It’s just so normal. What about those people whose hobbies are far from the ordinary. Today’s post is all about exploring the weirdest, most random hobbies around…

Swimming with Sharks

This isn’t your average holiday past time, and you’re definitely going to need more than a padded bikini and a wetsuit to swim with these beasts! Having said that, the men and women who swim with sharks professionally tend to go underwater in nothing more than trunks or a swimsuit – no safety cage, air tank or instructor to hand! Obviously, these people know what they are doing (and clearly have a very strong thirst for an adrenaline kick!), but on a personal note… there’s just no predicting a blood-thirsty shark’s behaviour!

Planking

You’ve probably definitely seen the pictures. You lie down, flat as a pancake somewhere public – usually in a funny or unexpected location. Then, your accomplice takes a photo of you and posts it on the internet. Simple! It really took off with people travelling the world, and became a global phenomenon.

Food Carving

So, you’ve probably heard of wood carving and ice carving but what about food carving?! There have been competitions all over the world in which budding food-carvers compete to create the most artistic shapes; think flowers and animals made of edible ingredients.

Mooing

Yep. That’s right, mooing. Apparently, there are lots of people around the world who  like to get together and moo. There’s even a contest held every year in Wisconsin called ‘Moo-la-palooza’, which shows that perhaps there’s more to mooing than initially thought; you need the right pitch, tone and length of a moo to be in with a chance of winning.

Guerrilla Gardening

In its plainest form, this hobby involves taking care of plants on land that doesn’t belong to you. Many guerrilla gardeners aim to revive and beautify neglected, overgrown urban areas. Technically, this public service-type hobby is illegal!

As much as we’d love to sound original with our hobbies on social media sites, sometimes shopping and going out with your friends sounds a lot more appealing than risking your life with sharks or staying up all night gardening!
