Whether you’re going on a foreign holiday or are off on a weekend break to a UK city, budget airlines provide a fast, pleasant and inexpensive way of getting to your destination. Travelling from one end of the country to the other can be long, laborious and costly by car or train so the best option quite often is to take an internal flight.
If you are in Birmingham for instance, it is possible to fly to Aberdeen in less than an hour and a half – any other option simply seems unviable in comparison. As well as regular internal flights there are also direct flights to some of the less obvious European destinations.
Here are just a few options:
Dubrovnik
Croatia’s capital is both beautiful and inspiring, blending tradition and history with beautiful coastlines. The city also has a very modern, trendy vibe and is packed with fantastic restaurants to suit all pallets.
In 2012 it was named in the BBC’s world’s most affordable cities to visit, citing its food, accommodation, architecture and friendly locals among the reasons to go there.
Avignon
You can fly direct from Birmingham to the picturesque setting of Avignon in the south east of France. Whilst there you can enjoy a host of attractions and some fine examples of ancient architecture such as the Palais des Papes, the Avignon Cathedral and of course the world famous medieval bridge known as the Pont d’Avignon.
Dusseldorf
This big city on the River Rhine boasts one of the smartest shopping streets in Europe, a carnival to rival Venice’s, the world’s tallest digital clock and the Pope’s favourite pastry shop. This city has been rated for its boutiques, galleries and pavement cafes.
Budapest
Often described as the “Little Paris of Middle Europe”, Budapest is famous not only for the monuments reflecting its own 1,000-year-old culture, but also for the relics of others who settled there. There is much to see and do in the Hungarian capital particularly around its historic castle district with its medieval streets and houses, museums, caves and Roman ruins.
Waterford
As the song goes ‘it’s a long way to Tipperary’ but actually getting to this large county couldn’t be easier with direct flights from Birmingham. Full of Irish charm, and enchantment, it is a great place to kick back, enjoy the Guinness and have some good old fashioned Irish craic.
