Honeymoon Destinations That I’d Enjoy

Florence Italy Honeymoon
My back in 2004 researching Florence, Italy for a future honeymoon destination.

It seems like every one of my friends will be getting married over the next 2 years. Unless something crazy happens soon, I don’t think I’ll be one of them. Over these next 24 months I have 11 weddings to attend. I am in 6 of those weddings and will be bring 0 dates. This will be a great time to play a card from Vince and Owen’s hand in Wedding Crashers and try to meet somebody nice (at each one).

Because of the inevitable talk of wedding cake, reception locations and honeymoons, it got me thinking about the best honeymoon destinations around the world. Honeymoon destinations that I’d like to take my new wife (when/if that ever happens).

So as 2011 wraps up I put together my favorite destinations…

My requirements are pretty simple: The place has to be unique and full of life, yet romantic and secluded enough to get it on whenever and wherever I’d like… that’s what it’s all about right.

The criteria will probably change drastically as I get closer to marriage, especially since she will have a say in where we go and for the simple fact that I’m nowhere near marriage material at this point. Regardless, it’s fun to think about.

As of the 2011 Honeymoon edition, I would like a place with some culture, great food, secluded beaches and heart-pounding adventure activities.

Here are my top choices as of right now:

Northumberland, England

What? Yep. I am starting off the list with a twist from the norm. I am in love with northern England and Northumberland is as northern and as lovely as it gets. The Northumbria coast and country is England’s most northern county, a magical place filled with ancient castles, golden sand beaches, rolling hills, rugged moorland and friendly little towns and villages. The perfect honeymoon for me would be to have a luxuries few days in London town and then disappear north in one of the many incredible and secluded Northumberland cottages.

Florence, Italy

Florence is one of the most beautiful and romantic cities I’ve ever seen. The food in Florence is incredible, the music and architecture is inspiring and walking around at night is so relaxing and sensual. Instead of staying in a hotel I would rather rent a place and check out Apartments in Florence for your holidays.

Fiji

I figured a trip to Fiji could also merit a trip to Australia and New Zealand so I could get some serious adventure travel in before and/or after the honeymoon. Plus, have you seen the water in Fiji? Ridiculous.

Tenerife, Spain

Tenerife is the largest and most populous island of the 7 Canary Islands and it is also the most populated island of Spain. Based on prices of Tenerife Hotels, It would be awesome to go around the time of one of the world’s largest carnivals, Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The Tenerife accommodations around Playa de Las Teresitas look amazing.  Also, I could show off my Spanish knowledge to my new wife!

Bora Bora

I’d like to go stay in one of those cool huts that float above the water. The sea looks crystal clear and if possible, I would swim to Tahiti. Plus, the geographic setup of Bora Bora is incredible. A barrier reef and a lagoon surround it and in the center of the island are the remnants of an extinct volcano.
