I was walking around downtown Buenos Aires Sunday afternoon minding my own business, when I literally ran into this random parade coming around a corner. I still have no idea what it was for but it ended up consuming my entire afternoon. I followed it from Peru Avenue to Plaza de Mayo where it was followed by a huge free concert right in front of Casa Rosada. Sergio told me that it was in honor of the fall of the Berlin wall but I haven’t found anything in the newspapers about it. Anyone have any answers?
The great thing about parades here in Buenos Aires is that everyone gets involved. At the end of a certain section of the parade people will just follow behind and sing and dance along with the participants. Also, unlike many parades I have been to in the states, I noticed everyone was very loose and seemed to ‘freestyle’ often. Certain sections stopped when they felt like it and broke out into full-fledged dance parties while other sections kept marching on. Also, they take over parts of the streets and traffic cops have no chance in controlling them.
Buenos Aires remains Silver Fox Status in my book. Between work and travel, there are surprises around every corner… and I love it!
