Scuba Diving in Koh Tao Thailand

A Trip to Remember

If you’ve never tried diving off of the Thai coast, well, you’re missing out on a real treat!

If you’re planning to travel to Koh Tao in Thailand, then you’re going to have the trip of a lifetime. Beautiful beaches, welcoming locals and balmy weather make it the perfect island getaway. It’s certainly one of my favourite places to jet off to during the gloomy winter. If you want to take your trip to another level though, then there’s one thing you must do – learn to dive! I couldn’t recommend the experience enough.

Why do it?

So why learn to dive? Well, firstly, it allows you to see your destination in a totally different way. Koh Tao is famed for its sandy beaches and clear blue seas, but what’s underneath the water is just as stunning – if not more so.

Dazzling coral reefs, underwater plants and native fish are just some of the things you can expect to see. You’ll also be able to get up close and personal with whale sharks, some of the most awe-inspiring creatures of the sea. They have been spotted off of the coast of Koh Tao all year round, so it’s just a matter of being in the right place at the right time!

The First Step

If you’re a first time diver, there are plenty of beginner’s courses out there to help you get started. Koh Tao is a great place to dive for the very first time, as it’s home to some shallow sites. One of the most popular is the Japanese Gardens, a short boat ride away from the island. It’s home to a small wreck and close to a stunning coral reef. As far as a beginner’s dive goes, you can’t really get much better!

Keep Boredom at Bay

If you’re the kind of person who likes to do something other than sunbathe by the pool all day; diving is a great way to fill your time. You’ll still be able to take in the stunning scenery of the island, but occupy yourself and learn a new skill at the same time.

Your instructor will take you through every step of the process meticulously, and will be able to answer any questions you may have about diving. A school like Go Pro Asia runs dives from Koh Tao regularly, and allows divers to train as instructors too.

Take Some Precautions

Taking part in adventurous excursions is a lot of fun, but it’s always best to be on the safe side. Avanti scuba diving holiday insurance means that no matter how daring the activity, you’ll be protected (terms and conditions apply). Which then means that you can tick off as many things on your to do list as possible, including an incredible scuba dive!

Take the Plunge!

Those that learn to dive in Koh Tao say there’s no better place to do it. It’s ideal for beginners, but allows you to undertake more challenging dives as you grow more confident. As for holiday memories, well, it doesn’t get much better than swimming alongside a shark or exploring a coral reef. If you decide to dive during your trip, then you certainly won’t be disappointed.
