Let me take you behind the scenes (BTS) of our 19-day adventure to Mt Everest Base Camp with some rough-cut clips of where we stayed, what we ate, and everything in between.
Our six-trekker team met our Active Adventures‘ guides in Kathmandu, and catch an early morning flight to Lukla where we would begin our trek.
Day one was filled with excitement and interesting new obstacles as we made our way up into the mountains.
Transcript:
I was still here in Kathmandu, trying on some pants. I was told to get all the gear here because it’s cheaper and good quality. So, I’m back here in the dressing room trying on some clothes. That’s the store I’m in and the staff helping me. I’m just getting everything ready for the big adventure!
Good morning, adventurers!
It’s 4:30 AM here in Kathmandu, Nepal. We’re with Clint Tripp, getting ready to head out on the adventure of a lifetime. Everything is packed up—this is what we’re taking and that’s what we’re leaving behind.
We’re going for about nineteen days. I’m going to take you behind the scenes of our Everest adventure with Active Adventures, so come on, let’s go for a little ride!
Just a joke—so you can’t see this, but we’re in the middle of an empty warehouse, with puddles on the floor and shrapnel everywhere. It looks like there’s one departure gate up there and a few hundred people, along with some dogs.
Here’s the crew! All our gear is ready.
We had a little breakfast and are now boarding the flight, making our way through Lukla and heading out on the trail. We just got in a little bit ago, had some breakfast around 9 AM local time, and are making our way through town into the mountains.
It’s absolutely beautiful!
Looks like this is our lunch spot. Oh man, it smells delightful! Oh, Clint, I caught you tripping!
Lunchtime, Day 1
I’ve been trekking for about two and a half hours through the villages, and I’m ready to have some grub with some beautiful views. We’re on our way to lunch now, then we’ll be back on the trail, about an hour away from our first campsite of the night—well, first teahouse, I should say. Now we’re just making our way along the river in the lowlands, following the fearless leaders to glory.
We made it to our final destination of Day 1—a teahouse! The whole crew made it! How do you feel?
That’s it; it’s all that matters. One day at a time!
We just had dinner and are getting our stuff organized for tomorrow. Great first day hiking through the villages along the water and up into the mountains. Tomorrow, we’ll gain a lot more altitude, and it should be a good day. So, we’re going to sleep with our batteries to keep them warm, so they don’t drain faster. That’s it! See you tomorrow!
Starting Off Day 2
A little hot porridge and some ginger tea to get into the mood. Hanging out with some other trekkers and getting ready to go. Where are we headed today?

Nowhere in the world is more spectacular than in the Everest region. It is where four of the world’s six tallest peaks Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, and Cho Oyu rise above everything else, crowning the towering ridges that straddle the forbidding Himalayans. The Everest Base Camp trek is the grandest walk in the land of the Himalayas. Trekking through the Everest region offers astounding mountain views, and opportunities to get a glimpse into the life of world famous climbers (the Sherpas). The trek further offfers the opportunities to go sightseeing around Sagarmatha National Park, a world heritage site that is home to a variety of Himalayan floras and faunas, to get a closer look at the highest Buddhist monasteries in the world, and, of course, the most gratifying of them all, the trip to Everest Base Camp itself. It is an opportunity to embark on an epic journey that Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay set off on in 1953. But nothing beats the thrill and sense of accomplishment that grips travelers on seeing the power and grace of the mighty Everest up close.
