The Australian Outback; a massive stretch of remote and rugged landscape that covers a large portion of Australia’s interior.
From the aboriginals who’ve called this place home for thousands of years to the cowboys, ranchers and truck drivers who’ve come through since, it takes a resilient and strong-willed person to survive up here.
With more kangaroos than people, it’s as wide open of a place you’ll come across on this planet.
For that reason, I decided to make the long trip from Alice Springs to Darwin with a Real Aussie Adventures tour group.
Joining me on the trip was a great group of travelers from all over the world, including Germany, Switzerland, Scotland, Belgium and England (okay, so mostly Europe).
We would drive for a few hours at a time, stop for snacks and ice cream at each gas station, and then continue on until we reached a hiking spot or swimming hole.
There was a lot of driving, but seeing that Outback landscape aka “the bush” with my own eyes was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
In total, I spent two weeks in the Northern Territory, with a few days in Alice Springs and Darwin bookended around the road trip, and had a great time exploring this part of Australia.
Here are few photos from the Australian Outback trip…
Uluru at Sunrise.
Hanging out with my new buddy Sebastian at the Kangaroo Sanctuary in Alice Springs.
Adding my touch to an Aussie collage in one of the pubs along the drive.
Overlooking the outback from King’s Canyon.
My Scottish pal Sean exploring the cracks of Devil’s Marbles.
Breaking balls.
Channeling the Lion King with Abbie from England at Devil’s Marbles.
Waterfalls within Kakadu National Park on our way to Darwin.
Ready for a much needed swim after a long, hot hike in the bush!
Pool Party!
Refreshment.
There’s always something watching in the Outback!
The incredible night sky! With absolutely no light pollution, we could easily see the milky way on most clear nights.
When the light hits Uluru, you can understand why the Aboriginals believe this to be a sacred place. Beautiful.

Special thanks to Real Aussie Adventures for supporting me on this trip!
