The Best Communication Device for Travelers

As of October 1st I am turning off my cell phone until I return to the states. I’ve signed up for Skype and threw $10 in the account. I transfered all my contacts from my phone to my Skype account so I can call anyone in the world from my computer and Skype will just deduct the cost from my account. I set it up so once I hit under the $2 mark it will automatically add another $10 from my account.

Skype is amazing because I can also talk to anyone in the world for free if you have a Skype account threw the computer (as long as you have a microphone & speakers). Also, if you have a webcam you can video chat for free. Technology man… pretty sick!

MY SKYPE NAME: agarethleonard

I do plan on purchases a cheap cell phone here in Buenos Aires and just put minutes on it as I need it to make local calls and in case of emergencies. If I get real popular down there I will reevaluate the situation.

SIDE NOTE: Another reason why I’m a big fan of Skype is because of the person who helped make it happen. I had the privilege of listening to Tim Draper speak (and sing) at a VC/Tech Conference I attended in Santa Monica a few years back. I admire the guy because he is a Venture Capitalist with a personality… oxymoron? Maybe, but this guy has a way of being charismatic while still demanding respect from his peers… not easy to do! Here is a clip of him singing “Risk Master” at a conference, great stuff.
