New York City is one of the biggest cities in the world and is considered an economic, artistic and architectural centre. With its long history and international appeal, hundreds of unique attractions have been created throughout the years. Each of these attractions offers photo opportunities and awe-inspiring views. However, with so many alluring sites, it can be daunting trying to figure out what to see. Below are the seven best attractions that every tourist should visit during their holiday in New York.

Seven Things You Can’t Miss

1. The Empire State Building – While it offers an incredible view from the streets, venture to the top of the Empire State Building for an unparalleled view of New York City. This classic attraction offers visitors a chance to rest atop one of the tallest skyscrapers in the world. However, visiting this architectural marvel should not be done randomly – wait times to get to the top can be quite long. Instead, purchase tickets in advance to dramatically reduce this.

2. The Statue of Liberty – This iconic symbol is a definite must for any tourist wanting to see one of the most recognizable symbols in American culture. As a gift from the French in honor of a new friendship between the two countries, this statue has become a symbol for immigrants who have moved to the United States in hopes of creating a better life. This is largely due to the fact that immigrant ships would pass by it on their way to Ellis Island. Unfortunately, the interior has been closed for renovations for some time. However, the island itself can still be visited.

3. The American Museum of Natural History – Opened to the public in 1869, this famous museum has continued to grow and evolve since its inception. The Rose Center planetarium was added in recent years, as well as other permanent exhibits. There are also several revolving exhibits that showcase discoveries, art and technological advances from all over the world. This means every trip to this museum will be one-of-a-kind. This makes it a necessity for any New York holiday, even if you’ve been there before.

4. Rockefeller Center – This centre of entertainment is in vibrant midtown Manhattan and is a great place to visit, no matter the time of year. Perhaps most famous for its Christmas tree and ice skating rink, it also provides visitors with access to the Top of the Rock Observation Deck that allows for some truly picturesque shots. In addition, there are several dining and shopping locations within the plaza.

5. Staten Island Ferry – This world-famous ferry allows for an up close and personal view of the New York Harbor, as well as the legendary city skyline. It primarily serves as a transport vessel for commuters traveling between Staten Island and Manhattan; however it also provides visitors with distinctive viewpoints of the city.

6. Central Park – This vast park located in the middle of uptown Manhattan, provides a fresh green escape for New York residents and tourists. It covers 3.4km squared worth of land, and forms the most famous park in the world. It has become well-known, largely by being featured in almost every movie or TV show that is set in New York. Formed in the 1850s specifically to provide an escape for New Yorkers, this park has been routinely revamped and adamantly maintained. For a truly memorable holiday, find a hotel that is located near the Park. As you browse hotel information when planning your trip, keep an eye out for this feature.

7. Ellis Island Immigration Museum – This museum is dedicated to providing the history of the once operational immigration centre. With interactive exhibits, walking tours and movies, visitors can experience the hardships that were experienced by immigrants. You will also enjoy the ferry that will take you there across the New York Harbor.
