Like rafting and mountain biking in Moab, Utah, renting 4-wheelers requires a similar adrenaline-pumping face-off: man & machine vs. environment & ability.
In this matchup the battlefield is beautiful and the obstacles are deadly.
A day after the Yard Sale in the Colorado River my buddy Mike and I tested our 4-wheeling skills in the deserts surrounding Moab. We wasted no time exploring the wide-open terrain at full throttle and managed to snag some fun shots in the process.
There were no boundaries, tour guides or any other 4-wheelers. Just 2 idiots with a scheduled meeting point, a terrible map and a camera. Here’s what we got into…
It was a beautiful day in Moab, Utah. We pickled our environment and our own abilities and came out on top… well sort of…
On our way back to base I came over a hill a little too fast and caught the front tire on a small boulder which flipped me off my ride and as I hit the ground the 4-wheeler rolled over me and off the path. I ended up paying $175 in damages for bent handle bars and cracked wheel cover and another $8 for Neosporin and bandages.
The final score of the weekend was Moab 2 and Gareth 0, but I’d do it again in a heart beat. Next time I might remember to pack extra protective gear though.
